Arne Slot Insists He Feels Secure and Retains Liverpool's Backing After PSV Humiliation

The Liverpool head coach admitted that it was understandable for concerns to be raised about his future following another convincing loss against PSV Eindhoven.

The Reds endured their ninth defeat in twelve matches, representing the club's worst streak since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.

They were dominated by the Dutch league title holders on a punishing evening at Anfield.

“I feel secure, things are alright, I have got plenty of backing from management,” the coach commented.

“It would be nice to reverse this trend and secure a win obviously but if you are coaching a team and struggling then it's typical that questions are asked.”

He noted, “I am OK with my situation. This isn't the first time I’ve been in a challenging situation but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”

Talks with The Board

When asked to elaborate on his dialogues with the team officials, the head coach said:

“We communicate frequently. They are helpful for the squad and to me and those talks happen but they don't phone me constantly of the day to say they back me.”

He further stated, “In the normal conversations we have I sense the belief. But I haven’t spoken to them since this defeat so far so we'll see.”

Familiar Problems and Squad Reaction

Slot highlighted familiar weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their European loss, namely missed opportunities and defensive lapses.

Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was blunter in his view of the current crisis.

“I haven't got the solutions. Frankly, I do not. I’m saying that to everybody,” Jones said.

“It's simply not good enough. I don't need to wait to think about it. I’m past being angry inside. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the phrases.”

He went on, “It's tough because I play for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen this club for years.”

“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Reds side experiencing a spell of this nature with performances this poor.”

Jones concluded, “However we still have the crest on our shirts. And as long as it is taken away, we'll continue to compete.”

“We will attempt to help the side back to its rightful place, show everyone again what Liverpool stands for and the reason it's called the best team in the planet.”

“However currently, things are bad and it needs to change.”
