British Designer Antony Price, Celebrated for Creating Looks for Bowie and Duran Duran, Passes Away at Age 80.
Antony Price, the visionary style architect behind a series of unforgettable images favored by David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has sadly died at 80 years old.
His reputation was built on his architectural shapes and dramatic aesthetics, including the soft-colored suits that featured in the pop-rock group Duran Duran's classic music video for "Rio".
"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement on social media."
Price's death comes shortly after he unveiled his newest line in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. The performer Lily Allen walked in a dress inspired by the iconic black velvet "revenge dress" historically worn by Princess Diana.
A Lasting Legacy
Hailing from Yorkshire, where he was born in 1945, Price moved to London during the sixties to study at the renowned Royal College of Art.
A year after graduating, he commenced his career designing men's fashion at Stirling Copper and was behind the tight, button-detailed trousers that rock legend Mick Jagger wore during the iconic group's Gimme Shelter tour in 1969.
He launched his own brand in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show featured as its opener looks from model Jerry Hall, who later wore the bridal gown Price specifically designed for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.
Working with Legends
A key creative partner of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price designed the iconic jacket the star wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.
His characteristic talent to blend elements of men's and women's fashion along with his technical proficiency in shaping sculptural silhouettes made him a "genuine original," as stated by the UK's fashion authority.
By the 1990s, he commenced designing outfits for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, which included several ensembles for her American tour after assuming the title.
After a career spanning over fifty years, Price presented his final runway show in London just last month in partnership with the design house 16Arlington.
