Amateur players are getting an opportunity to earn a seven-figure prize when they compete against elite players - featuring leading player the Spanish champion - in a single-point showdown prior to January's Australian Open

Tournament officials of the Australian Open have revealed the Seven-Figure Quick-Fire Competition, which will match everyday competitors against 22 professionals in a elimination competition at the tournament grounds

The Unique Competition Operates

Competitors are set to play 'the decision-making game' to decide who gets to serve or return, and whoever wins the point will move forward to the subsequent phase

The winner of the event will receive £490,000

Contextually, players who advanced to the semi-finals of the primary tournaments in the last edition won A$1.1m

Local players - or international players who have signed up with the governing body - can compete in 'One Point Slam' events at their community centers

The victors of the grassroots tournaments will then go into a selection process, with an everyday competitor from every state and territory picked to participate in the 'grand finale' in a night session on mid-January

There will also be a preliminary competition in late year which everyday players, aspiring competitors, well-known figures and athletic celebrities can participate in

It starts on Monday, 12 January and the pair of champions will qualify for the following day's 'final showdown' with the additional everyday players and top-ranked athletes

"Whether you're an amateur or a pro, the final champion will walk away with the award. Registrations will start imminently at facilities nationwide"

Competition planners said there were "additional stars to be revealed shortly", while the event portal mentioned "famous personalities" would be participating
