Jujutsu Kaisen: The Execution Film Aims to Fix the Anime's Biggest Controversy

JuJutsu Kaisen: Execution is not precisely an original movie. Rather, the recent cinematic release from the Jujutsu Kaisen action franchise is a compilation of the anime's second season merged with the initial episodes of its next season, which launches the Culling Games storyline from the original manga. This establishes Execution, which has been given a new trailer, the earliest way to see the beginning of the upcoming season ahead of its January 2026 premiere. The movie premieres in Japan on Nov. 7, and in North America on Dec. 5.

The Culling Games Storyline

In the Culling Games plot, Elite sorcerer Yuta Okkotsu is introduced in the show and is assigned by jujutsu higher-ups to execute his fellow student Yuji Itadori. Their highly anticipated battle occurs for the first time on the silver screen, and if the animators at the production house have an exceptional piece as episodes 40 and 41 prepared for fans this holiday season, JuJutsu Kaisen: Execution may end up being the present that fans have anticipated.

The Thunderclap Issue

"Thunderclap" from the second season is often hailed as among the best moments in anime history, despite the significant debate in the previous year when the installments originally aired. It was reported that the animation team were facing harsh deadlines to the extent, and the released version that premiered at the time was not fully polished and reportedly not what the team first envisioned.

The Epic Battle

The episode features a long-awaited battle between two powerful sorcerers, Sukuna versus Mahoraga. It boasts innovative art style, masterful camera work, and thrilling combat. A later physical media version allowed the team to include extra footage to expand the battle. So it was plausible Execution could refine the sequence additionally. However, examining the recent teaser, it's difficult to determine if that battle has been given extra attention. It'd be a letdown if it didn't, because a sequence that grand has to be watched on the biggest screen with the optimal viewing experience.

The Second Season's Triumph

The second installment of JuJutsu Kaisen elevated the franchise to become the award-winning series of 2024, and when the two-part finale were aired consecutively, it was the topic of conversation for an extended period in the anime community. Fans had heard of the production challenges, which made them appreciate what they saw even more. People anxiously checked to see if the disc version, released on March 18, would feature extra content to the battle or to see if it was refined somewhat, and were overjoyed to see just that, alongside reshades, more motion, and different color grading.

The Movie's Opportunity

But the physical release can only improve what has already been presented in the original airing, whereas the movie has the chance to properly present the moment with more adjustments and new animations entirely.

A Magnum Opus

Currently, these episodes represent the magnum opus of JuJutsu Kaisen, and should be treated as such by Mappa, notably because of the issues they encountered at the time. It's drawn the focus of anime fans all over the world, and the Culling Games arc is a highly awaited story of the coming year. If the production company wants to begin the year strongly, run back the anime's greatest sequence once again in cinemas with the best interpretation we've seen yet.
