The Red Devils Set to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has six months remaining on her deal, is known as a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a major coup for the WSL side.

Departure from Bayern was expected since she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the club's supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top forwards. Per reports, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.

Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Attack

The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a major boost to United’s forward line. She has been highly reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Old Trafford

The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when the club appear to be gathering positive momentum.

Recent performances feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has seen further activity:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's extension, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having arrived from a side from the American league, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
