This Limited-Edition Pikachu Promo Aims to Curb the Influence Against Resellers
Marking the launch of the fascinating new book Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology, a unique collaboration is underway. Pokémon's creators alongside the Natural History Museum will launch a pop-up shop stocked with special merchandise. Fans can look forward to products like stationery, plushes, and artwork that are drawing from the institution's theme. For collectors, however, is a specially made Pikachu card, offered as a free bonus for the pop-up. The store is scheduled from on-site at the museum to online from January 26 to April 19.
Pokécology That Inspires the Collaboration
Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology is a much-awaited tome filled with stunning illustrations depicting creatures in their wild environments. It's essentially like the kind of research a Pokémon Professor might publish once adventurers submit their data, or what Charles Darwin might have created had the Galapagos were populated by Pidgeys instead of finches. Part of the charm stems from the book's serious treatment, presenting Pokémon as worthy of subject for inquiry. Writer Yoshinari Yonehara and illustrator Chihiro Kinoshita each possess PhDs in animal behavior and ecology.
What Makes This Special Card Different
The company regularly for The Pokémon Company to release cards celebrating big events or brand collaborations. A lot of these promotional cards typically highlight the iconic electric rodent who serves as the series face. The factor setting this new promotion apart is its distinctly bigger size. While precise specs were not immediately shared, its distribution will certainly be strictly limited, with customers limited to just one card per purchase.
Curbing Speculator Interest
Per an official announcement, some of the pop-up items may also be available beyond the museum walls. However, a wider release is slated for specific stores within the UK. Critically, collectors will not be able to purchase this promo through the online Pokémon Center. Although speculator demand is a given, the setup suggests they will have a difficult time stockpiling large numbers this time around. If you're feeling left out, there is the upcoming fossil-themed display coming to Chicago in the coming months.
"All profits from purchases from the museum store and from its online store, including Pokémon products, go toward the Natural History Museum’s charitable mission. That encompasses the efforts of 400 scientists who are conducting studies and finding solutions to the global ecological crisis," the statement says.
