This Swine Life: Hog Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Leader.

Although not quite at the equivalent scale as pardoning festive fowl, but the mayor of Miami-Dade had her own presidential-style act this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“The swine has done no wrong. She deserves this act of mercy. No offenses are on her docket,” Levine Cava said in a speech with inescapable allusions to the sheer volume of executive clemencies issued from the start of the onset of a second term in office.

“Unless you count eating half a dozen apples per day,” the mayor added. “Let this swine have a prosperous future free from concern.”

The gathering, either celebrating or rejecting the area's customary feast of feasting on pork during the holidays, was created to mirror the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.

The animal, contributed by a local firefighter, was named for the popular vernacular phrase of young people exclaiming “six seven” – originating from a rap song lyric – often seemingly at random. The trend became so widespread that a leading lexicon site recently declared “6-7” its top term for the year.

A Future Secured

The pardoned swine is now set to enjoy its days at a farm sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the organizers' announcement.

“The annual pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to kick off the end-of-year celebrations,” said the cafe owner, in a decidedly positive message.

“It represents the essence of Miami: joyful, multicultural, and based in heritage that foster togetherness. Each year, we are proud to celebrate culture and compassion in a way only Miami can.”

Guests enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach croquetas and Cuban coffee as they marked the swine's new lease on life.
