Three-time award winner Nikola Jokic sustains a 'heartbreaking' knee injury.
Three-time National Basketball Association MVP Nikola Jokic sustained a "devastating" injury to his knee when the Nuggets lost by a score of 147-123 at the Heat.
The Serbian center was hurt late in the first half following an unintentional collision with fellow Nugget Spencer Jones.
The other player came down on the foot of the MVP, and he promptly fell to the floor grabbing his leg.
The 30-year-old, that tops the NBA season in rebounds and assists, had a score of 21 points and eight assists in the matchup before incurring the problem.
The player will have an MRI on Tuesday to determine the severity of the injury.
"Right away, Jokic realized something was wrong," stated Denver head coach David Adelman.
"Injuries are part of the game. Anyone who suffers an injury, that's gut-wrenching, especially a player as important as he is. We'll find out more on Tuesday."
"The team will adjust together. Clearly, right now, I'm focused about Jokic personally and the letdown of experiencing an event like that."
